I bought BitDefender Antivirus '09; I uninstalled Norton (mistake!) and installed BitDefender. Immediately the computer slowed down...three days later, it is still slow, much slower than when I had Norton. I tried technical support but there is no information under "documents" relating to this problem. I would NOT reocommend this software.
I'm very disappointed with Bit Defender's support. Contacting them by phone is possible, but I had to wait until 2am. Their live chat option is better but by no means perfect - it sometimes forces you to send email instead of chatting.
Their tech support personnel make promises they can't keep: "I'll have an answer for you within the hour". Well that was yesterday!
The problem I'm having is their interaction with Windows Update. Bit Defender assumes that clean downloads of WU are viruses, and messages pop up hourly to that effect. It doesn't matter if I invoke WU from the Start Menu or through the Bit Defender interface. I've sent them everything they've asked for days ago, and no help.
They need to improve their tech support, and fast. I'm about to ask for a refund...
I agree the program is basically in Beta, I had contacted support 3 times and none of my problems were solved, they had me try things from there support after it took a week for them to even acknowledge that they received the email. 1 problem I had occurred after an update, I tried their solution on the web site which caused another problem so following the web site I tried that solution this forced me to wipe and put a fresh copy of Vista ultimate x64. the scary thing is that the program said everything was fine and going well but when you looked into the program it hadn't scanned in days even tho it was set to scan everyday. I was an idiot and bought the program so I to have over 300 days. Buyer beware here you are in my opinion buying a product that is in beta. I uninstall the program and am now in the process of evaluating others. took Support a week to get back to me to try other things to get it to work, I had already uninstall and put another on.
Yes, i fully agree BitDefender Antivirus 2009 is a pain in the neck. I bought the program based on this review but was fully and completely disappointed with the program. I am now looking for an alternative even though I still have 200 over days left. The problem is the program will just delete (despite you didn't set the option to delete) the files and many times it deleted the wrong files! At the end of the day, I have to source for an undelete program to painstakingly recover the deleted files! Wasted many hours on that. I will never buy another product from BitDefender.
BitDefender Antivirus for Basic but good security! BitDefender protects you aginst the latest viruses and threats. I use Internet Security, but I think that AV is also good.
After over 40 emails exchanged in a day (they refuse to talk with you) where I had to do the diagnostics, they failed to fix my virus problem and basically wasted my time. My computer guy came and fixed it and uninstalled bitdefender. I wonder if they work out of a garage. Avoid Avoid Avoid.
watch out when you call the 800 number it tells you to call a 900 for tech support which is a line that charges your phone for use. I wrote an e-mail to bitdefender and got a we are sorry bulk mailing.

Used Bitdefender for the last 6 months. Software was fast, low memory overhead and easily configurable. Bitdefender unfortunately could not defend my computer from a virus attack to the root system. It recognized the attack but was unable to stop the virus from damaging my Windows XP OS SP2. This happened to me twice and had to do a complete OS reinstallation. Presently using another antivirus program.
I'm (or was) a very big fan of BitDefender and starting using it years ago. Since the 2009 version the honeymoon is over as it is a version that just doesn't work. I have it installed on Vista SP1 and XP SP3 computers but non of them work. Constant errors, endless scans. Even after several fresh installations, the errors keep coming.
Unfortunately BitDefender Support doesn't react on mails I send them so for me 2009 is my last Bitdefender product...
I agree wholeheartedly, and am pretty heartbroken over it. I was using Norton for years - experiencing slower and slower PC action until I finally kicked 'em out, replacing 'em with BitDefender 10... Wonderful product on both my desktop and laptop, until, as you said, 2009... Same experiences - NO response to emails, installation full of bugs, newly-installed product won't work right, product installed two months ago quit working - what a headache and heartbreak!! Too bad - now will be taking a serious look at Avila....
